Recess is honored to be the first North American site hosting the Gaza Biennale, a global exhibition shaped by Palestinian artists who have been creating throughout the genocidal siege in Gaza. Even in this time of catastrophic loss these artists have persisted in their artistic practice.

Spanning five days—September 10–14, 2025–and then again in abbreviation for three months–September 18–December 20, 2025–the New York Pavilion of this artist-initiated Biennale brings together a vast grouping of artworks that speak across borders and conditions of constraint.

On view Sept 10–14 (full exhibition), continuing in abbreviated form Sept 18–Dec 20.

All program space at 46 Washington Avenue is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Our restrooms are gender neutral and ADA compliant. Administrative offices are located up one flight of stairs, but we offer alternative meeting and workspace on the ground floor.

We’re grateful for the strong response to the Opening Reception of the Gaza Biennale at Recess tonight, Thursday, September 11, 6–9pm. We’ve now reached our RSVP limit of 400 and are expecting a large crowd.

Our gallery space is limited, and to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort, entry will be on a rolling basis. This means that at peak times there may be a wait to enter. We encourage you to arrive early and stay flexible with us as we open this important moment together.
